K12 Student Field Trips, Times Square Improv Comedy NYC DOE VENDORS

Bring your students to our Times Square NYC theater for shows, workshops and ask about our famous pizza party options!!! We host student groups from k12 schools, camps, community centers and family groups from around the world almost daily.

What does a typical Improv 4 Kids field trip show experience look like?

For most NYC DOE schools, the buses roll up to the Broadway Comedy Club at 318 West 53rd Street around 10:15am.

We run a show or workshop at 10:30am. Our leading player warms up the crowd, introduces the basics of Improv comedy and then brings up the rest of the cast. For the next 50 or so minutes we create original skits and songs on the spot. We bring things home with our big Broadway (comedy club) finish. This is a mini mock musical comedy inspired by a single word.

After the show, if time permits, we sit down for a q&a with the students. We allow students to eat right in the theater, a comedy club with tables (aka cabaret seating). For some groups we provide lunch. We can also add a mini workshop at this point.

We are most famous for two things: audience interaction and music.

Every 5 minutes our MC interacts directly with the audience. Students yell out their favorite TV shows, songs, books, hobbies, sports, etc. We turn those ideas into mini plays. Some shows get 20+ students on stage.

Columns invites two to four students on stage. Akin to a MadLibs book, students “fill in the blanks” everytime an actor points their way. The collaboration of professional comedic actor and their youthful imagination is priceless.

Sound Effects invites two students to support the scene, creating ambient sounds. An actor might say, “Oh I love the sounds of birds chirping in the morning!” The audience volunteers, armed with the microphone, makes the sounds of birds, or “something else”. What ever we get we use it in the scene.

Freeze Frame can invite numerous students, and even a teacher or two on stage to become a human slide show. We were doing the Mannequin Challenge 10+ years before it was a social media trend. Our actors turn history experts, narrating the each “slide”. Everytime we dim the lights, folks on stage change poses. Need some yearbook photos, or want to boost the school’s Instagram feed? THIS IS YOUR MOMENT!!!

Three Headed Expert & Four Square get a student or teacher on stage to become one of the pros. We love to demonstrate how easy improv comedy is. Becoming proficient to the level of getting paid to perform takes years. But anyone can have fun playing these games.

Why do schools come back every year?

You can see reviews and feedback HERE. Our shows are beloved by kids and adults. Teachers and parents love our show. Of all the Programming they have to sit through, ours is not a “kid’s” show. It’s clean enough for any school or church / temple.

But unlike most children’s programming, we are not condescending or baby talk, unless Walter starts playing Jimmy #iykyk 😆 We are rock n roll. In fact, our show is popular with middle and high school students because the vibe is MTV while still having Disney or Nickelodeon like content. The talent is Broadway trained and many have appeared on TV, Broadway tours, off-broadway etc. Often times the only difference between Improv 4 Kids and our parent show EIGHT IMPROV are the shirts we wear. (Don’t tell our adult audiences, the only times those shows go beyond PG13 is when they take it there. We stay clean on our end for corporate and university events.)

More importantly, parents and teachers love us because we don’t teach improvisation. While having fun playing improv comedy games, we teach community and leadership. We teach listening and focus. We teach public speaking. We teach self-confidence.

We love it when a parent or teacher pulls aside, winks and says, “I see what you are doing. These are lessons for life, not Improv!”

Ssssssshhhhhh…… If you don’t tell, we won’t. Our success is not hitting over the head with obvious educational jargon. We play the role of the fun people. This way, kids actually listen to the wisdom we sneak into shows and workshops.
